Posting our letters

Room 3 and 4 have been learning about the consequences of unsustainable palm oil that is used in everyday products such as shampoo, lipstick, chocolate, soap and even ICE CREAM!

Palm oil is the most consumed vegetable oil. It is in about half of all packaged products sold in our supermarkets! It also threatens some of the planet's most important habitats. The tigers and a lot of other animals are endangered because their habitats are being destroyed for palm oil.

We wrote letters to say that palm oil should be:
- ECO friendly
- Clear on food labels.

We wrote a draft in our books.

Orana Park.

This Term is an exciting one for Room 3. We have moved into a new learning environment as our classroom is getting built!
We have moved into the old library and have been working collaboratively with Room 4.
Our  topic focus this term is on Animals, minerals and vegetables.

Last week the children were lucky enough to see so many animals at Orana Park. We learnt all about the different types of animals and their habitat.

These are some of the things we learnt.
Cheetahs are the fastest land animals on earth! They are mammals which means they are warm blooded just like us. When they are running they use their tails to steer.

Giraffes are the tallest animals. They have a light pink/purple tongue, which means it has more protection from the sun.
We really enjoyed being able to feed them.

In this photo the children are holding the rhinos  horn. This horn is made out of the same material as our fingernails and hair (Keratin).

Collaborative Learning

The treaty of Ake Ake and Rata.

Rooms 2 and 3 have worked closely together, talking about what we need to have in our classroom treaty.

We discussed in our own classes what we wanted. Then both classes came together.
The children were put into groups  and had to decide what they thought was most important.

The children have signed the treaty.

Welcome to our blog.

Sun Smart.

Thank you Meridian for our brand new sun hats.

Junior Triathlon

Well done to those who participated in the Junior Triathlon.
The children started off with swimming, then they had to run around the school field. Finally they had to scooter or bike to the finish line.
The best part was the ice blocks at the end.
